Melbourne’s racing is at Caulfield on Saturday with a predicted Good 4 track. The rail is +9m for the entire circuit, and with a forecast southerly wind blowing we will be favouring the on-pacers.
In Race 3, Vale Rod McQueen Bm70 (1400m), we like the look of the topweight in Subliminal. She has been rising steadily through the grades and goes into this looking for a hat-trick of wins, having beaten Chill The Krug in her last outing at Bendigo. The distance suits (four starts, one win and two seconds), she will get some weight relief from apprentice Jaylah Kennedy, and hopefully a nice jump from barrier 6. We will be taking her each way.
Keep Reading is up next in Race 6, Manhari Metals Handicap (1100m). Second up (4:1-2) after a nice win in a Bm80 at Morphettville Parks over 1000m, he looks to be going on with how he finished up last prep. Jumping from gate 2, he should get a nice run on the speed and be right there at the finish. Our only small niggle is whether he will handle the tighter track at Caulfield.
Race 8 is the Thoroughbred Club of Australia Handicap (1200m), and our money will be on Bons To Riches from barrier 2. Although only lightly raced with the four starts, his best runs come from inside draws like his soft win by 2.5 lengths last start at Cranbourne. His win at Pakenham suggests to us that he will handle the sharp turns at Caulfield, and the $8.50 currently on offer looks overs.
We are hoping for there to be no big surprises in the Quaddie this week and have gone skinny on a couple of legs. We started well in Sydney last week, but then dropped the last two races, so we are hoping for some redemption here. Here are our numbers:
1/4/6/8
3/4/7
1/2/7
11/14/15
Good luck and happy punting.
