The 2024/25 Victorian season commences at Flemington on Saturday and it looks to be a great day with nine races on the card. The rail is +10m the entire circuit which would normally favour those up near the pace, however Flemington’s famous 453m home straight can often see winners come from anywhere in the run. The track is a Soft 5, with a light northerly wind and a few showers around on the day.
We start our day with a look at Race 5, VRC Season Premiere Race Day Plate (1620m), and we are finding it hard to go past Le Zebra after the big grey’s 5L win here last start.
He is drawn well in barrier 6 and should get a nice midfield run before hitting the wind at the top of the straight. In-from jockey Damian Lane keeps the ride (22% strike rate in the last 30 days), the soft track should suit him perfectly, and we think he is the deserved favourite.
Rise At Dawn could run well, but he would have to overcome a tough draw in barrier 10 which does not seem to suit his racing pattern.
The feature Group 3 Aurie’s Star Handicap (1200m) is up next, and it looks to be a competitive betting race.
Zarastro makes the trip south after a nice win last start at Eagle Farm and gets Jamie Kah onboard, It’sourtime was a last-start winner this track and distance with Damian Lane; but we are looking to Right To Party to go right on with it here after two wins and a second (by 0.3L) this campaign.
She might have a tough time knocking off the boys for the win, but she is three starts for two wins at Flemington, will handle the straight course (1:1), and is drawn ideally in barrier 8. Jye McNeil (2:2) keeping the ride is the final tick for us.
The Flemington quaddie often throws up a few surprises and is sure to keep the day interesting for punters. Here aee our numbers:
1-2-3-8
1-3-10-11
2-3-4-7
2-5-10-13
Enjoy the day and happy punting.
