Racing returns to Flemington on Saturday with a predicted Soft 5 track and with a few light showers forecast we do not expect that to change. The rail is +8m for the entire circuit and the track generally plays quite fairly.
Moor Mumm catches our eye in Race 2, Rda Horsham Jan Croser Plate Betting Odds (1400m). She is having a terrific prep so far with three starts for two wins and a close second to Niance and looks to keep that form line going here. Drawn barrier 6, there is not much speed inside her and we expect her to settle in the second or third pair. Apprentice Jaylah Kennedy (4:2-1) keeps the ride and a 3kg claim, and she will be right there at the finish.
Race 3 is the Rdav Mary Longden Mile Betting Odds (1600m), and we will be hoping Craig backs up from his 4.3L win at Bendigo last start. He ran over the top of the field late there, suggesting that the step up to 1600m will not be an issue. Luke Currie sticks, he is drawn nicely in 5, and we are looking for our second winner for the day.
Jumping ahead to Race 7, Tab / Ata Trainers Trust Handicap Betting Odds (1100m), and we think there is value in Carbonados in what looks to be an open race. He has a perfect first up record (2:2), one start for a win at the distance, and the only question seems to be how he will handle the Flemington straight. If there is a bias to the outside rail, Links could provide some big value at $31 currently.
There is so much great racing Saturday and we look around the grounds and see if we can select more winners. At Randwick we like Sir Lucan in Race 8 and Xidaki in Race 11. Eagle Farm gives us La Crique in Race 7 and Mazu in Race 9. We almost made Morphettville our feature this week, with The Cunning Fox in Race 2, Co Co Van Winkle in Race 5, Validated in Race 7 and Layeruponlayer in Race 9 all appealing.
Enjoy the racing, and happy punting.
