We are staying in Sydney this week for Golden Rose Day at Rosehill Gardens, and what a difference a week makes! Rain during the week gives us a forecast Heavy 8 track, and with more showers due we could see that deteriorate even further. The rail returns to the true position, and we will focus on value runners who have shown that they can handle the conditions.

Race 5 is the Petaluma Heritage Stakes (1100m) and we are looking for Winning Proposal to get the job done ahead of Gatsby’s and Ikasara. Drawn nicely in barrier 3, she should get a nice transit either at or just off the front, and has good exposed form on heavy going with a win and two minor placings from three starts.

She has a 50% strike rate second up, and the drop back to 1100m should suit her nicely given she didn’t seem to run through the line at 1200m last time out.

Moving on to Race 6, Irresistible Pools & Spas Handicap (1400m). A big field of 21 starters makes finding a winner on a heavy track even more difficult than normal, but we are hoping that Rhapsody Chic will present each way value.

Trained in Victoria by Anthony and Sam Freedman, he has shown that he can also run the other way with a handy win at Randwick earlier in the year. He is hard fit at start number seven for the campaign, boasts a perfect 3:3 record at both the 1400m and heavy conditions, and having Blake Shinn booked for the ride is another positive in our eyes.

We finish the day with Race 10, Rosehill Bowling Club Handicap (1100m). Hopefully the track is holding up as we have another value runner in Peace Treaty to preview here.

Another Freedman/ Shinn combination, she has drawn just far enough away from the rail in 5 for what we hope should be a nice run in transit. Third up suits having won third up previously, she has one win from one start on a heavy track, 50% at the distance, and held on for a tough win last start.

For punters looking for even more value late in the day in the same race, the grey gelding Sir Ravanelli (NZ) absolutely loves a bottomless track and the 1100m. He could be considerably over at around $34 currently.

Good luck punters and enjoy the day.
